Poll Results and A2 EMT Assignments

Hi everyone –

By now, each of you will have got a separate email introducing you to your team members for the EMT assignments (A2) for weeks 5-12 of the course.  Please let me know immediately if you haven’t received your team assignment, or if you have any questions.

In brief, the EMT schedule looks like this:

W5 – Blogs

W6 – Learning with Games

W7 – Learning in the Cloud

W8 – Personalized/Adaptive Learning

W9 – Visual-Intensive Learning

W10 – BYOD

W11 – Self-Guided Learning

W12 – Masters of Educational Technology

I’ve got to tell you that I love doing this poll because the results (and therefore the direction of the class) is unpredictable; a worthwhile learning experience in itself.  At this stage our cohort amounts to a valuable “focus group” on what’s exciting and important in emerging technologies for learning.  Bottom line: you’ve picked a set of topics quite different than I would have picked, and your collective opinion is clearly influential!

I didn’t have to modify or interpret the raw poll results hardly at all because your opinions were quite focused.  I’ve assigned each of you based on your comments, and I’ve concocted a schedule that I hope provides a useful progression through the topics.  Beyond all of the detailed A2 instructions elsewhere I’ll offer these overview thoughts:

1.  Be Strategic:  Each of these topics is large, with many different parts.  Do your EMT analysis on the whole enchilada if that’s the best way to engage your audience, or else select as narrow a subset of the topic as befits your team’s strengths, interests, and your perception of the “sweet  spot” of your topic.

2.  Be Opportunity-Focused:  Beyond introducing all of us to the essence and issues, your objective is to make us astutely aware of the learning-centred opportunities related to your emerging technology.   Where will the breakthroughs happen, and why?

You’re welcome to use the private spaces available in this blog to organize your efforts, and/or any tools and spaces anywhere on the web.

I advise all of you to chat ASAP, even if you’re not up for many weeks, to start framing out your ideas and duties.

Please consult with me as much as you might require to make yourselves comfortable and excited about this challenge!

Good luck!

David
